This whole zombie outbreak thing has been a major bummer for a lot of people as well as gorillas, chimps, monkeys, etc....... Before the out break, this guy (Frank the Chimp) for example was not only a San Francisco Zoo favorite, but he was also a devoted husband and father. Zoo goers marveled at the innovative ways in which he would fling his poop at Zoo Keeper Gary and shower Steve the Orangutan with his hot streams of urine in the neighboring cage. He was a gentle, sweet soul who loved nothing more than sharing a warm churro with his son Lil' Beave on a foggy SF day. Now the poor sonofa bitch spends the better part of his day foraging for rats, parrots, babies and the like in an attempt to quench his thirst for the flesh of the living. I'm coming for yah Frank and I'm goina' put a bullet right between your sad simian eyes.

Last Friday was my final day at 2K Marin. I worked there for about 2 and a half years. While at 2K I got a chance to work on some cool projects like Bioshock 2 and XCOM with some very passionate people. Overall it was a very good experience. This past Monday was my 1st day at my new job as a Senior Concept Designer on a feature at Lucasfilm Animation. So far I'm loving the new gig. I'll post some more of my Bioshock 2 artwork soon and some of my XCOM art when appropriate. ;)

One of my favorite moments in cinema is during the climax of the Iron Giant when the giant utters the word "Superman" as he sacrifices himself to save the world. It's poetic, heroic, beautiful. This painting is kind of the same thing, but crappy and gross and ridiculous. On a completely different note, oh my shit I can't wait for the season finale of Breaking Bad this Sunday on AMC. What an amazing show, good lord it's so friggin' good.

I'm currently in Australia and accidentally left my "messy" sketchbook at home. I've got a "crappy drawing" sketchbook with me but it's just not the same. So I had to get some "3rd floor flavor" (sjsu reference) out of my system, hence this lil' number. Bioshock 2 is Out!

Here's some character design work I did for the Brute Elite and the Brute for Bioshock 2. I worked on this project for about 2 years and it was a blast. The game hit shelves yesterday as did the "Art Of" book. You can only get said art of book in the Bioshock 2 Limited Edition. With the Limited Edition you get the game, the 168pg art book, the score and more! The art of book is a humdinger and features such artists as Dermot Power, Seamas Gallagher, Annie Fix, Josh Viers, Alex Munn, Craig Sellers, Lorraine Rocha, Marc Gabbana and many more!!! I just got this fancy action figure in the mail today. It's based on my design for the Player Big Daddy, "Subject Delta" for Bioshock 2. Neca made this bad boy, and I gotta say they did a fantastic job. Speaking of Bioshock 2- The Bioshock 2 launch trailer debuts tonight on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. It was done by Blur Studio and looks pretty sweet. They did a bang up job on it.

I recently had an itchin' to do a caricature and here's the results. This is Andy Samberg (hopefully you can tell), who along with Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Tacconehe created a pilot called Awesometown for Fox that landed them work on Saturday Night Live. They're the team responsible for the hilarious SNL Digital Shorts. I'm planning on doing some more caricatures soon. I'll post em when they're done.

Once again 2K Games has been kind enough to give me the go ahead to post some more of my concept work I did for Bioshock 2. Aside from getting the chance to work on such a great game I've also had the privilege of working with my wife on this project. Despite being pregnant throughout her stint on the project, keeping our household together and taking care of our "more than a handful" two year old, she's managed to do a lot of great character designs for the game. Here's a link to her blog where she's posted her Little Sister Design. Pretty much all the design work on the game that involved little sisters was done by her. She brought just the right sensitive feminine touch to these freaky little sweethearts.

Here's the first piece of Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams concept art to be released. 2K was kind enough to give me permission to post this on my blog for your viewing pleasure. Bioshock 2 has been the most fulfilling project I've worked on to date. Working on this game has been a dream job for me as an artist and the team is a joy to work with. I'll post more Bioshock 2 art when appropriate.

My sketchbook pages are more or less in a constant state of change. I just keep working on top of them until I'm satisfied with the image. I did this work directly on the pages from the last post. I used Sharpie Poster Paint, a Presto Correction Pen, Sharpies (black, red, orange, silver) , a white Gelly Roll pen, Higgins india ink, a Derwent Studio pencil, Crayola Crayons, Liquitex Matte Medium, a ball point pen, scotch tap, artist tape, and some other crap. It's been a LOOOOOOOONG-ass time since my last post. I've been pretty busy with freelance as well as changing companies for my full time work. After 3 years working at Iceblink Studios / Image Movers Digital I've moved on. I made some life long friends and learned a great deal during my stint there. I recently accepted a position at 2K Marin as Senior Character Designer on Bioshock 2!!! This image is a little doodle I did in painter to celebrate my new job.

On December 2nd Maverix Studios will hosting yet another fund raiser for a good cause. This time it's for Glide Memorial Church. I'll be donating this piece entitled- "Hellboy n' Shit".

When I found out about the auction I didn't have a clue as to what my piece would look like. So I just whipped out a piece of matte board and started slappin' down some acrylic paint, India ink, acrylic gloss medium and torn newspaper pieces . I then took a photo of of the acrylic/ink chaos, cut the photo in to pieces and glued it back on to the matte board. Next I took a blurry photo of Venetian mask my wife and I have in our art studio and glued that to the matte board. At this point I still had no idea where the fuck I was going with this. I then drew a face on the blurry mask photo, threw in some stars, started slappin' some paint around, added a cig, and what not, then scanned it. After futzing around in Photoshop for a while, this guy kept saying to me "dude, I'm Hellboy, hey, it's me, Hellboy", so I finally agreed with this red feller, "yeah, he is Hellboy." So I Hellboyed him up a bit, printed it out on a big ass piece of paper, and that's where I'm at now. Next up, I'm going to mount it to a piece of Masonite and finish it off with some acrylic paint and various media. I'll post that when it's done.
